Part 2 of Stand and Deliver

In my opinion Mr. Escalante was a good teacher. He spent a lot of time with this group of high schoolers because he believed in them. He knew they could pass the AP calculus exam if they really tried. Although, I don't think a teacher would actually spend that much time with their students. I think Mr. Escalante did a great job at personally getting to know his students so he could relate to them and show them that he cares and believes in them. I don't think this group of students have had a teacher believe in them as much as Mr. Escalante did. I think that helped encourage and motivate them to actually pay attention and learn. In my opinion, a good teacher is someone who knows the subject they are teaching well and can make learning fun and interesting. Mr. Escalante was suppose to teach a computer science class but instead had to teach math and I think he did a good job at it even if he didn't know as much about math as he did about computer science. I also think he proved to his students that he believed in them by fighting to get answers for why they think the students cheated on the AP calculus exam. Also by getting them to allow the students to retake the exam to prove that they didn't cheat. I think these students learned from Mr. Escalante that if you try really hard at something you can succeed and not to give up.
