Part 1 of Stand and Deliver

So far I think Stand and Deliver is a decent movie. Although some of the things Mr. Escalante does and says does not seem too realistic. I think it is great that he actually wants to teach this group of high schoolers and is putting a lot of effort into it. It almost seems unbelievable that his students went from knowing seventh grade math to learning calculus in two years. That really shows the effort that Mr. Escalante is putting towards his students education. I think it is great that he is taking the time to teach his students before and after school, during the weekends, and during the summer for very little pay. Since he is spending so much time teaching, he's not spending much time with his family anymore. I believe his family should be one of his top priorities. I also think he has a great sense of humor. Although, some of the things he says is kind of rude and shouldn't be said by a teacher. For example, he mentioned something as a joke about one of his female students in front of the whole class, but he shouldn't have said it because it was personal. Mr. Escalante also does a good job at trying to get to know his students personally and can relate to them because of it.

  1. Good specific observations--for your post on the 2nd part, be sure to mention the scenes you're thinking of which will really enrich your posts! :-)
