There are many teachers in the world. Not all of them are the same. All teachers are different because they don't all teach the same way. Also, some are nicer than others. To me it seemed like Audre Lorde had encountered some mean teachers.
Audre Lorde showed her readers what the teachers she had encountered were like by telling stories from when she was in their class. The stories she had made the teachers sound like they were a bit mean. For example, Audre Lorde's sight-conversation kindergarten teacher told Lorde she was going to tell her mother about her not following directions in class. She was suppose to write the first letter of her name but she wrote her whole name instead. I think her teacher could have been a bit nicer about it. She didn't need to threaten her with telling her mother. All she was doing was showing off that she knew how to write her name already. I know that following directions is important, maybe her teacher could have been polite and remind her of what the directions were.
Another encounter with a teacher Lorde had was with Sister Mary of Perpetual Help. This teacher would separate her class into good and bad groups. She would put Lorde in the bad group for not knowing her numbers. It didn't seem like Sister MPH would help her learn numbers, but instead punish her by placing her in the bad group.
